IRIS, Internal Rotary Inspection System

IRIS (Internal Rotary Inspection System) is an ultrasonic test method that utilizes water as a couplant in order to inspect tubes from the inside. Full scans are performed as data is acquired through a 360° radius along the tubes' lengths. Upon completion of data collection a highly qualified field engineer with extensive process knowledge of boilers interprets the data on-site, allowing the customer to immediately address areas of concern.

PSA has inspected thousands of tubes using IRIS. The IRIS probe uses ultrasonic technology to inspect each tube through its 360° radius. The result is highly reliable data used to determine locations of problem areas.

IRIS Features:

Clear, easy-to-read digital format
Test 360° of tubes from 1/2" - 3" diameter and up to 100' long
Scan up to 400 tubes per twelve hour shift
Uses 110V power supply
Accurate to within +/- .005"

Our inspection/condition assessment service package utilizing IRIS includes nondestructive testing of

Evaporators
Condenser Tubes
Heat Exchanger Tubes
Generating Bank Tubes in Drum Boilers

and other critical areas inaccessible via standard test methods.

PSA's engineers deliver a report that confirms pertinent findings and includes recommendations for short-term solutions and long-term planning, incorporating vividly colored maps and data distribution graphs of tested areas.

The report is compatible with MIDAS™ (Material Integrity Data Acquisition Software) database software for managing test information.
