Power Specialists Assoc., Inc. (PSA) is a growing, Connecticut-based engineering firm based in the Pulp & Paper, Utility, Co-Generation, Resource Recovery, and Power Generation markets.  We perform condition assessments of large industrial boilers and steam generating equipment in power plant systems through nondestructive testing and visual inspection.  PSA provides a wide range of additional services, including training, operational troubleshooting and tuning, water systems consulting, and process system audits.
 

As a 20-year-old company, we have an excellent reputation in the industry for quality service in the areas of high pressure boiler inspections, combustion system troubleshooting and tuning, nondestructive testing, training, and consulting.

These positions can be
physically demanding and require good oral and written communications skills.  Applicants should have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently without close supervision. Advancement is possible for those with proven aptitude and leadership skills. Substantial nationwide travel (by auto or air, expenses paid) is required for all positions.  Applicants must be willing to relocate to the northern Connecticut / western Massachusetts area.

FIELD TECHNICIANS (Part-Time Seasonal Contract Positions)

We need hard-working, professional individuals to assist our Field Engineers and Technicians in providing services to our client mills. Work involves (but is not limited to) nondestructive testing to determine structural integrity of power system components.

Assignments are available in Spring (April/May/June) and Fall (August/September/October), but may be available at other times throughout the year. Job assignments vary from one day to two weeks. Shift work (including overtime) comprised of days, nights, or a combination is required.

The essential functions of this position include, but may not be limited to, those listed above. PSA retains the discretion to modify the duties of the position at any time.

Candidates for Field Technician positions should possess the following qualifications:

At least 18 years of age
Strong work ethic
No prior experience necessary, but knowledge of nondestructive testing and a mechanical inclination a plus
Availability for regional travel to job sites by air or vehicle
Negative pre-employment drug screen

QC SPECIALIST

We seek individuals with a combination of engineering and hands-on skills who wish to pursue careers as consultants to the power generation industry.  Candidates must demonstrate good oral and written skills, be self-starters and highly motivated.

Applicants for QC Specialist position should possess two or more of the following qualifications:

Certified Weld Inspector (AWS)
Certified x-ray film interpretation (ASNT)
 ASNT Level II, UT, PT, MT
Thorough knowledge of ASME and NBIC codes
Experience in the Pulp & Paper, Utility, or Co-Generation industries
   (with an emphasis on boiler and pressure vessel repair).

INDUSTRIAL BOILER INSPECTOR / PROJECT MANAGER I

The successful candidate for this position should be willing to travel extensively nationwide, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and possess a strong work ethic.  Prior inspection experience is desirable.  The position is physically demanding on-site and requires the ability to access boiler cavities through small manways. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.  Interaction with customers at all levels, from entry to senior management/owners (from the boiler room to the board room), is required. Internal management of crews of 2 - 30 individuals performing all phases of nondestructive testing is required.

Applicants for the Industrial Boiler Inspector / Project Manager I position should possess at least two of the following qualifications:

3 - 5 years operational and/or maintenance experience on high pressure (≥ 600 psig) industrial boilers
B.S. in Engineering (or a related field)
U.S.C.G. or Stationary Engineers Operating License
Experience in the Pulp & Paper, Utility or Maritime industry.

DATA MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN (DMT)

Immediate Need for individuals to generate report data.  DMT to support non-destructive testing effort for the assessment of industrial boilers with computer programs designed for the acquisition and management of data and customer reports.

Requirements:

Extensive travel nationwide via auto or airplane.
Computer proficiency in Windows.
Passing certain mandatory safety tests (drug screen, fit test, spirometry test).
Strong written, verbal and organizational skills.  Attention to detail.
High school diploma or equivalent.

ENTRY-LEVEL FIELD ENGINEER

You will work with sophisticated nondestructive testing equipment, perform condition assessment projects and work under the guidance of senior project managers. Applicants must possess good oral and written communication skills, be self starters and be highly motivated. Opportunities for advancement and increased levels of responsibility are available for those with proven aptitude and leadership skills. 

Entry-Level Field Engineer applicants should possess at least two of the following qualifications:

B.S. in Engineering (or experience in related field)
U.S.C.G. or Stationary Engineers Operating License
Experience in the Pulp & Paper, Utility or Maritime industry
Experience in the nondestructive testing field
Project Management experience.

FIELD NDE TECHNICIAN (UT/MT/PT)

In-house training is available to successful candidates for the Field NDE Technician position.  Field work is performed primarily inside steam-generating equipment.  The job is physically demanding (on-site) and requires an individual to access boiler cavities through small manways. Prior level I or II (UT/MT/PT) NDE certification or experience is desirable but not necessary. Computer proficiency in a Windows operating environment and/or AutoCAD experience is also desirable.
